krsko integration

school project

Krško, 2012

The Krško project started with analysing urban tissue and discussing which part of the old city fabric has the potential and which one has to be revitalised. The arguments for revitalisation were followed by designing the projects for these urban parts of the Krško city.

Our task was to find the appropriate program for the given location and to design the intervention in relation to the existing fabric.

This project was focused on creating new housing buildings and an office building, which was decided when we thoroughly examined the surrounding programs.

The concept was "expansion/extension of the old".

Formal design of the new buildings followed the structure of the existing volumes in the old city centre. New volumes are added to the old, like extensions, which extend away from the crammed street area, and give the volumes extra exterior space available.

Housing volume is placed near the existing apartment building, and the business volume lies next to the court building. Not just the volume itself, but also the program of the building is an extension of the existing.

With designing the area we create two exterior microambients - the garden and the street, which are connected to each other. They enrichen the location and represent the space for interactions. This way we designed even more important space than the buildings, the space in-between.
